Finn “The Tide” Marlowe
Aquatic Rock Icon
Introduction
Finn Marlowe, famously known as “The Tide,” was a rock star who built his entire career around his deep love of water. From ocean-inspired lyrics to music videos filmed in bathtubs, Finn’s signature style made him a legend in the “aquatic rock” genre he basically invented.
Early Life
Finn was born on August 3, 1984, in Seaglass Cove, Florida. As a child, he spent more time swimming than walking and was often found composing songs on a waterproof notepad in the family’s backyard pool. His first band, The Chlorine Dream, got its start in a garage that flooded during a thunderstorm.
Later Years
Finn became world-famous for his water-themed albums like "Drip Drop Rock," "High Tide Heartbreak," and "Cannonball Symphony." Known for his dramatic stage setups—including fog machines, splash zones, and water cannons—he was a sensation on the festival circuit. Tragically, on June 17, 2022, he died during a live poolside concert in Las Vegas, where against all warnings, he performed a guitar solo while standing in the shallow end of a hotel pool. The combination of an electrified stage setup and water proved fatal.
Contributions
Finn popularized a completely unique niche in rock music, blending surf rock, ambient ocean sounds, and high-voltage guitar solos. He also raised awareness for ocean cleanup charities and organized benefit concerts to protect coral reefs.
Fun Facts
He claimed he never took a bath—only “mini concerts.”
He legally changed his middle name to “Tsunami” in 2014 during a live-streamed charity concert.
His guitar strap was made from repurposed sailboat ropes, and he only played instruments that had been “blessed by saltwater.”
