Margie Quibb

Doorknob Percussionist / Composer

Introduction

Margie Quibb rose to fame as the only person to ever play doorknobs professionally. Her groundbreaking album, Rattle the Hinge, was nominated for a Gently Experimental Grammy in 2009.

Early Life

Margie was born on February 11, 1975, in a locksmith’s workshop in Boise, Idaho. Her first words were “click” and “clack,” which her parents took as divine inspiration. She constructed her first instrument from a closet door at age 7.

Later Years

Margie toured Europe with the Doorknob Philharmonic and performed at several sold-out opera houses. She passed away in 2020, shortly after completing her silent symphony The Locked Room.

Contributions

Margie introduced a new percussive style known as knob-rhythmicism. She inspired a generation of unconventional instrument makers and remains a cult figure in niche music circles.
