Introduction
Margie Quibb rose to fame as the only person to ever play doorknobs professionally. Her groundbreaking album, Rattle the Hinge, was nominated for a Gently Experimental Grammy in 2009.
Early Life
Margie was born on February 11, 1975, in a locksmith’s workshop in Boise, Idaho. Her first words were “click” and “clack,” which her parents took as divine inspiration. She constructed her first instrument from a closet door at age 7.
Later Years
Margie toured Europe with the Doorknob Philharmonic and performed at several sold-out opera houses. She passed away in 2020, shortly after completing her silent symphony The Locked Room.
Contributions
Margie introduced a new percussive style known as knob-rhythmicism. She inspired a generation of unconventional instrument makers and remains a cult figure in niche music circles.
Fun Facts
She collected over 600 antique doorknobs.
Once performed on the actual door to Beethoven’s childhood home.
